Our class went Rogue and the Forces Awakened as we started our school year with a Start Smart Day! Originally, I was going to have the students construct bridges, but after seeing the new Star Wars movie, and of course the passing of Princess Leia, I knew we would do a Star Wars theme! Students used cardboard, bubble wrap, lots of duct tape and other assorted materials to construct everything from space shuttles, to droids and of course a few light sabers! (though not as popular an option than I thought it would be!) The students were a little amazed that we had no set "curriculum", but that the only direction of the day was "To Make Something Cool!" And that they did! At one point we had an actual droid walking the classroom! All in all, it was a great way to kick off 2017 and have some learning fun!
